Shopify Stocky Shuts Down August 31, 2026

Shopify's Stocky inventory app reaches end of life on August 31, 2026. Merchants get at least 90 days of read-only exports — but suppliers, historical purchase orders, and stocktakes will not migrate.

What Happened

Today is the hard deadline. After August 31, 2026, Shopify's Stocky inventory management app will no longer be available, the company confirmed in its Help Center. Merchants who have run purchasing, stocktakes, and transfers inside Stocky — an app included with Shopify POS Pro subscriptions — must now manage inventory through the built-in tools in the Shopify admin and Shopify POS. The shutdown is the final step in a consolidation that began on February 2, 2026, when Stocky was delisted from the Shopify App Store and became impossible to reinstall.

Shopify has published a full migration guide and an on-demand webinar to move workflows onto its native inventory system. The replacement stack is broader than Stocky ever was: transfers and purchase orders live in the Shopify admin, store staff can send and receive stock from Shopify POS with permission controls and a complete audit trail, and Sidekick — Shopify's AI assistant — can analyze your sales data and draft reorder purchase orders for you. The catch is the migration itself: very little of your Stocky history moves over automatically.

Key Facts

  • The Stocky app stops working after August 31, 2026; from September 1, inventory must be managed in the Shopify admin and Shopify POS (Shopify Help Center).
  • Stocky was delisted from the Shopify App Store on February 2, 2026 — the app cannot be reinstalled.
  • Merchants keep read-only access to export their Stocky data for at least 90 days after the shutdown — roughly through the end of November 2026.
  • Historical purchase orders and stocktakes do not migrate automatically and cannot be imported into Shopify; suppliers cannot be exported from Stocky at all.
  • All Stocky APIs stop working on August 31, 2026, breaking third-party tools that integrate with them. New physical inventory APIs are available in developer preview.
  • Stocky was included with Shopify POS Pro subscriptions, and free for stores that installed it before May 4, 2020.

Why This Matters for Shopify Merchants

For multi-location retailers this is the biggest forced workflow change on the platform this summer — the second hard deadline in a single month, following the August 26 checkout thank-you page deadline. The upside is that native inventory management closes gaps Stocky never could: inventory syncs in real time across every sales channel, transfers and purchase orders support hundreds of line items with bulk actions, and Shopify Flow can automate low-stock alerts so you reorder before items run out. Sidekick's demand-based drafting means many merchants will end up with smarter purchasing than Stocky offered — one more piece of Shopify's native AI toolkit replacing third-party apps, as we covered in our guide to running store operations with Sidekick.

The risk is data, not features. Stocky's supplier records, historical purchase orders, and stocktakes stay behind — and Shopify explicitly warns that uninstalling the app may make your data unretrievable. If you do not export within the 90-day read-only window, that audit trail is gone for good. Third-party integrations that talk to Stocky APIs will break silently starting today, which turns this into an operations emergency for anyone running custom tooling. It is also part of a wider pattern of platform API sunsets merchants have had to absorb this month — Google's Content API for Shopping shutdown being the other big one.

What Merchants Should Do Now

  1. Do not uninstall Stocky. Shopify warns that data from an uninstalled app might not be retrievable — keep it installed and use its read-only mode for exports.
  2. Export everything you might need inside the 90-day window: purchase order history, stocktakes, and cost-of-goods reports via Stocky's built-in reports. Put a reminder in your calendar for the end of November 2026.
  3. Rebuild supplier records manually in the Shopify admin — suppliers cannot be exported from Stocky — then reconnect them to new purchase orders.
  4. Move daily workflows over now: create transfers and purchase orders in the Shopify admin, let staff receive stock in Shopify POS, and ask Sidekick to draft reorder POs from your sales data.
  5. Replace Stocky custom fields with metafields on transfers and purchase orders, and set up Shopify Flow automations for low-stock alerts.
  6. Audit any third-party tools that use Stocky APIs — they stop working today. Check whether your WMS or ERP can target Shopify's inventory APIs instead; new physical inventory APIs are in developer preview.
